Low-key start for Adams in NBA
Oklahoma City Thunder's new Kiwi signing Steven Adams had a low-key first taste of NBA basketball in a summer league game against the Indiana Pacers fully furnished.
Rotorua-born Adams played 23 minutes, entering the game about halfway through the first quarter.
He shot 1-4, slamming in a one-handed alley-oop for his only two points of the game which the Thunder won 76-68.
He also picked up a game-high six rebounds, and contributed two blocks.
Adams was a first-round pick at the NBA draft in New York late last month, selected by the Thunder as the 12th choice storage unit.
A half-brother of double Olympic shot-put champion Valerie Adams, the 2.13m centre is set to become the third New Zealander to play in the NBA, after Sean Marks and Kirk Penney.
He is also about to become an instant millionaire, earning about $US1.74 million ($NZ2.2m) in his first year chenille embroidery patches.
